What to know about Turmeric:

Did you know that Turmeric is the only edible source of the superfood Curcumin?

Turmeric is  a root spice and it is the rhizome which is harvested, boiled, dried and ground into the turmeric powder. It is the curcumin in the turmeric that acts as a pigment providing the colouring to turmeric as well as many health supporting benefits.

The darker and oilier the turmeric powder, the more curcumin content that is present. This is the best way to identify the quality of turmeric. This grade is usually the Alleppey grade.

Steam sterilization is a safer way of reducing microbials in spices or dried herbs and in a way that seeks to maintain original nutrient and taste value. Since the combination of black pepper and turmeric is purportedly very powerful for some potential health benefits, Spice Sanctuary has deliberately chosen to source both of these spices in steam sterilized form.
